12.16.16 The Ogden Theater
After 18 months on the road, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Nightsweats came back home for a 2 night stand at the Ogden. The annual holiday shows, which sold out in minutes, wrapped up a whirlwind trip that began as a simple Record Store Day release over 2 years ago and turned into a best selling record and a sold out tour.
The band came out of the gate with I’ve Been Falling, I Need Never Get Old, and Look It Here, before settling to a comfortable groove starting with Howling At Nothing. A new twist to the shows that differed from earlier ones was a mid concert acoustic set. The highlight being a heartfelt cover of Leonard Cohen’s Chelsea Hotel No. 2.
It was after the first few seconds of Trying So Hard Not To Know when the sparks began to fly and they left their foot on the petal until the final notes of the encore rang out in the Ogden. The plan now is for the band to decompress while Nathaniel starts to write songs for the next album before heading down under for a tour of Australia. The next Denver show is a sold out Red Rocks show in August.
